What Happens if I get a Ticket Out-of-State?

In today’s day and age people have more access to other states than we have ever had before. Americans are so lucky to be able to drive anywhere in the United States with a driver’s license. But what happens when you are on that long awaited vacation, and you get pulled over for speeding??

One of the greatest things about the internet is how easy it is to communicate between departments. In almost every case, your home state will find out about it due to the Driver’s License Compact (DLC). This is an agreement between basically every state; except, Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, Tennessee, and Wisconsin; to report traffic violations out of state to the licensing authority in the driver’s home state.

Just because your home state knows about your ticket and has put it on your record, does not mean that it is over. You have to deal with the ticket in the state it was issued. Therefore, if you want to contest a ticket, you must do it in the state that you got it. You can do this in a few ways, either by traveling to the state, fighting it in writing, or hiring an attorney to travel for you.

We are very lucky that we have a more interconnected society that makes it much easier to deal with issues like this than, say, even 20 years ago. Although we hope that nobody gets a ticket, things happen! Make sure that you are protected, Call AZ Insurance Team Today and let us help you! (480) 535 5709
