Let’s face it, insurance isn’t the most exciting topic at parties. But once you dig into it, you’ll find the world of insurance is a lot more interesting (and even entertaining) than you might think. From celebrity body parts to space tacos, insurance has covered it all—literally. Here are five surprising, quirky, and downright unbelievable facts about insurance that just might make you the life of your next trivia night.

Fact #1: Celebrity Body Parts

When people say, “You look like a million bucks,” some celebrities actually take that literally—and then insure it.

  • Gene Simmons: $1,000,000 – The legendary Kiss bandmember is known for his stage presence—and his famous tongue. So much so, he reportedly insured it for $1 million.

  • Heidi Klum: $2,000,000 - The supermodel and Halloween party host is known for many things, including her million-dollar legs. Literally. Her legs were reportedly insured for $2 million.

  • America Ferrera: $10,000,000 – Star of Ugly Betty and Barbie, Ferrera insured her iconic smile for a whopping $10 million after becoming a spokesperson for a toothpaste brand.

Fact #2: A Policy for Almost Anything

Believe it or not, there’s insurance for things you’d never expect:

  • Alien Abduction Insurance

Yes, really. A Florida-based company has sold over 100,000 UFO abduction policies. But you’ll have to meet some pretty... otherworldly conditions to make a claim.

  • Multiple Birth Insurance

Expecting one baby and getting more than you bargained for? In the UK, parents can purchase insurance to help cover the unexpected costs of twins or triplets. (not available in the U.S.—yet.).

Fact #3: Founding Father of Insurance

Insurance has deep roots in American history. In 1752, Benjamin Franklin helped establish the Philadelphia Contributionship, the first property insurance company in the United States. It was created to help protect homes from fire damage—pretty forward-thinking for the 1700s.

Fact #4: Loch Ness Monster Bounty

In 1971, whiskey brand Cutty Sark put out a wild challenge: capture the Loch Ness Monster and claim a £1 million reward (about $1.3 million). Surprisingly, Lloyd’s of London agreed to insure the bounty—on the condition they’d get to keep Nessie if someone actually caught her.

Fact #5: Taco Insurance

In 2001, Taco Bell made a bold promise: if the Russian Mir space station crash-landed in a specific area of the Pacific Ocean, every American would get a free taco. To protect themselves, the company took out a special insurance policy. Spoiler alert: no tacos were handed out, but it made for great marketing
