A Homeowners Guide to Safely Owning and Insuring A Pool

Since 2020, pool injuries and deaths have been on the rise. So, it is important to make sure that you are taking the necessary safety precautions and making sure you have the right insurance! Here are our 4 safety tips if you own a pool:

  1. Make sure that your pool has a fence or gate around it: Not only is this a great safety precaution, it is also required by most insurance companies to have some type of fence around a pool to prevent liability accidents.

  2. Have an adequate amount of liability coverage: Having a swimming pool increases the probability of injury on your property that you would be liable for. It could be a smart option, depending on your current policy, to get extra liability coverage especially if you have a diving board or slide.

  3. Any pool leaks should be dealt with by a professional as soon as possible: Pool leaks can lead to water damage that will most likely not be covered by your homeowners policy, so it is important to make sure that leaks are handled by a professional.

  4. If your pool is above ground it falls into the personal property category: However, if your pool is in ground it will be considered part of your dwelling. It is important to make sure that you have enough personal property coverage to make sure your pool is covered in the event of an accident.
