Depending on your landlord, you may be expected to leave the walls without holes in order to receive your security deposit back at the end of your lease. In order to leave the property in the same condition it was when you moved in while still decorating your home, here are alternatives to using nails to hang pictures, posters, and artwork.
Prep the Wall
Before beginning, clean the space you plan on utilizing with a soft cloth and soapy water. Keep in mind these alternatives work best on a painted, drywall surface.
Adhesive hooks vary in size and color and can be used to hold up picture frames, Christmas lights, and even curtain rods. They can be removed from walls with ease; however, they may slightly chip off the paint upon removal.
Adhesive strips allow you to hang lighter pieces flush with the wall. A strip goes on the corners of your item and Velcros to another piece that sticks to the wall. Adhesive strips work well with posters; however some adhesive strips can hold up to 6-8 pounds.
Decorative tape comes in various colors, patterns, and sizes and can be used as decoration in and of itself. Decorative tape also works well for lightweight items like paper, small posters, or photographs.
Putty adheres to many different surfaces and can hold posters, photographs, and small framed items.
